Our History

Education has always been a significant part of the Casar community!  The first Casar School building was a high school that dates back to 1903; known as the “Casar Two Story School”.  The town members were the first rural district in Cleveland County to vote for a special school tax!  Many of the townspeople donated materials and labor to construct the school building.  Although the students would have endured grueling farm labor at home, the sacrifice was made to send children to school, which was evident with an enrollment of 130 students during the 1903-1904 school year.

Today, we still use the building that was constructed in the 1920’s for 4th and 5th grade classrooms, science lab, tutoring, and Title I, as well as the gymnasium which was built in 1950.  In 1972 a new educational building was constructed, and the first state supported public Kindergarten in Cleveland County was added to the curriculum.  The Kindergarten classes were housed in the the former vocational shop that was constructed in the late 1940’s, and is presently used for our Boys and Girls Club afterschool program.  Our cafeteria and special area classrooms are currently housed in the building that opened in 1972.  (Historical information was obtained from Tracings: Schools and Schooling in Cleveland County, Volume 1 Series 3 Burns District and the Historic Architectural Resources Survey Report.)  In 2005, a new building was added to provide 1st-3rd grade classrooms, teacher workroom, library, and office space.  Three additional classrooms were added on to the building that was constructed in 1972 and they currently house our Kindergarten and Head Start classrooms.

The people in the Casar community are very supportive of their neighbors and our school.  Annual events such as our Fall Festival and Field Day are always the talk of the town!  Having a small student population allows all school personnel the opportunity to closely know our students and their families.  Many of our staff members live in the community and several attended Casar Elementary as students!

Take a look at the historical newspaper articles shared below!  We hope to add pictures soon.  If you have any historical information to share with us, please contact the school.  We know some of these articles can be hard to read on a website, plus some are over 100 years old so the quality is not the best.  A PDF of all the articles will be added soon so you can download and print them all in one file.
