Casar Elementary added its own personal touch to the Cleveland County Schools' Christmas tree.

About 15 third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students joined Principal David Walker and members of Cleveland County Schools Central Services on Friday morning to decorate the Christmas tree inside the Central Services building.

Shull said Casar was chosen as a way of celebrating the school's various accomplishments during 2016, as well as a way to bring a school in upper Cleveland County into the central offices.

"Not only was it an opportunity to try to get a school from a different zone, but Casar has been very successful in the last year," he said. "Just about every competition that happened locally, they were winning it, so it was an easy call. We said, 'Reward your kids with a really cool opportunity.'"

Walker said every student in the school worked for several weeks in Sharon Stahoviak's art classes on handmade ornaments that were used to decorate the tree. After about an hour, the tree inside central offices was filled with homemade snowflakes, angels, reindeer, flowers and poinsettias.

"It's been a great, really fun, day for them," he said..
